I did two shoots yesterday, with the theme “Kids acting as adults.” This included a 2 yr old girl playing with pearl necklaces and 3 young boys dressed in business-casual playing with technology. So fun! Here are a few more of the boys:

I love what I do. But sometimes, like any job, it’s just a really really long day at the computer. At least today I had some company. Another little businessman had a long day at the computer too and I was happy to take pictures of him…

Dunford Family

What’s more fun that taking family photos with awesome hats and a GINORMOUS dog? Taking them in a snowstorm that combines the last bit of fall colors with the blustery weather of Christmas!

The Dunford family was awesome to work with, and one of their dogs is seriously about as big as I am. It was great!

And look how adorable little Caroline was! Between the hat, the boots, and the little bit of ‘tude she’s showing, she is one of the cutest little girls I have ever seen!

I loved how colorful this shoot turned out, and how it didn’t matter how cold it was or if it was snowing; this family was up for it!

Plus, a return to extreme adorableness.

Ellwood Family

As I am soaking up as much sun as my pale winter skin can take, I wanted to share this winter family shoot we did recently at Wheeler Farm. There isn’t any snow on the ground, but we sure felt like there could have been!

Alex is a financial planner with a local firm here in Utah, and he needed a new photo for the company website, so we did a few quick headshots for him as well.

If you’re thinking about doing winter family photos, a good solid red is almost always a great choice for a color. These ladies look beautiful, and really pop out in front of the background with the vibrant shade of red they went with.

After the more outdoorsy nature setting, we also got a couple of more formal portraits at the Capitol Building in SLC. We got there just in time to catch the last bit of the light. The night skyline was gorgeous!

Carlin Family- Downtown Salt Lake

It’s so fun to have more family living in Utah now. Sandy is my sister-in-law, and she moved here with her family when her husband Kevin got a new job in Provo. She has always been really supportive of my work, and so I was delighted when we came up with an arrangement for some trade work. I would take family portraits of them, and she would come over several times to clean the house. Given I would MUCH rather be taking photos than doing housework, I think this might be the best trade deal I’ve had to date!

It reminds me of the movie Julie and Julia, when Julie tells her boyfriend she knows why she’s so bad at housework- she has ADD. And he says “OH! Is thaaat it?” Yes. I must have ADD.

I may be biased, but my niece and nephew are adorable. You can’t deny it!

Happy Halloween

I love holidays. My favorites are the ones that center around food – Thanksgiving and Christmas – but each has a special role. Halloween to me is all about being a kid. It’s not so much any more about being scared (I never watch the scary movies anyway), but it’s about make-believe, becoming something really really cool, and mostly, it’s about candy. Seriously, we dress up our kids as fictional characters (or sometimes real) and run door to door demanding candy. How much better can it get?

I don’t have kids of my own yet, so I left a Facebook post saying I’d take costume pictures of anyone who stopped by this afternoon. And I had a few takers.

I have to be honest, I’m not totally sure what this kid was dressed up as. But he had a really cool gun. And a great laugh.

An angry bird! The funny thing is, I saw 8 or 9 angry bird this year for Halloween. These kids don’t even know who Mario and Luigi are, I guess I’m getting old :)

Young’ins in San Francisco: Family Photography

Thomas and I went over to San Francisco three weeks ago for our third wedding anniversary and for some much-needed vacation time. It was a great experience, and we did actually end up doing just this one shoot while we were out there. The Youngs recently moved out to the area, and they are some of the coolest people ever. Danny took a job with Google, and actually showed us around the campus a bit- talk about your nerd paradise! Full-sized T-rex bones, slides going from one floor to another, nap pods and free food everywhere…. it was a very neat place.

So one of the days we went into the City and met up to some family portraits. We went to Fisherman’s Wharf, Chinatown, the Exploratorium, and finished out near the Oakland Bay Bridge (the Golden Gate bridge was completely fogged out. I mean, just-one-big-grey-smudge-nothing-to-be-seen-at-all kind of fogged out. San Francisco is crazy like that sometimes).

I’ve known the Youngs for a long time, and I think we’ve captured their essence here below. It’s just fun. :D

Evans Family- Portraits at Nielsen’s Grove

I loved this shoot! Some of the cutest kids I’ve ever seen, and Lindzey and Branden were the perfect clients. When I asked them what they were looking for in their family portrait session, they said they wanted one or two traditional photos, and then they just wanted to have fun. PERFECT.

Ok, now it’s time to play!

Ashton is still working on the power chords. He does like to rock out on the ukulele though.

See this? This is the kind of shoot that I just love. Fun, relaxed, and a bit silly.

And now, for the piece de resistance…. this is quite possibly my favorite family photo that I have ever taken.

The Gardners recently had an addition to their family and we had the opportunity to help them update their family photos.

This picture of Sam and Katie just made my heart melt…. Sam seems like an awesome big brother.

We told the kids that if they were good they’d get a treat at the end. :)
