I haven't processed all of Jessica and Casey's engagement photos yet (it was a 5 hour shoot last Friday- we had a blast). I just had to post this one photo, however; can you believe this is in Utah??? More to come soon, I promise...
Trisha's Headshots
I shot Trisha's family last fall, and had a blast. They were so fun and happy to be around, that when Trisha called me and asked for some last minute headshots, I told her I would be delighted. Trisha is just getting into some modeling on the side, and we got some great shots to show off how gorgeous she is for her portfolio.
I love the red top; such a rich color... it adds the perfect splash of color here.
Studio Day Minipost #6- Baby Lindy (Hop)
I first met Alan and Lexi at a local dance event (actually, it was all part of the same dance community where I met Thomas). We both danced Lindy Hop, a classic social dance that started in the 20s and 30s and is still going strong today. It's also the form of dance known for "exchanges", a wonderful tradition where dancers fly or drive to cities (often across the country) with other dance communities and stay up all night for several days to dance nonstop. Aside from being an excuse to take road trips and dress up in vintage clothes with people as crazy as you are, the idea is that dancing with people from all different places, with all different styles, will make you a better dancer. Lindy Hoppers like to dance anywhere, with anyone, as much as possible, so even when there wasn't an exchange to attend, Alan went dancing at local venues every week. It was at another venue here in Utah that he met Lexi, who originally started out primarily dancing West Coast swing, before she got hooked on Lindy Hop. They got married and shortly thereafter they had a beautiful little girl. Although I'm always thrilled to have more babies to shoot, something was extra great about this one. Really, what is more appropriate a name for the daughter of two passionate Lindy Hop dancers than "Lindy"?
She is beautiful.
So is her mom.
This may not be a vintage skirt, but she does look excited about the whole dancing-exchange-road-trip idea. She definitely has the sleep deprivation thing down.
By the way, I promise that while I love crying babies, this is not intentional.
Really.
(But it is darling.)
Is it bad that I want to pack her up in this and run away with her?
I won't though, I guess.
...Swing dancers are fast.

Studio Day Minipost #5- Alicia's Headshots
In the spirit of finishing off all the mini posts so I can turn to the onslaught of engagements and bridals to come, here are just a few of Alicia's headshots. Alicia is a ballet dancer, has a very dramatic personality, and was a pleasure to work with in front of the camera.
Studio Day Minipost #4- Baby Bridger
Aaaaand a little over a month after the actual event, I'm still finishing up these mini-posts from the studio photography day. I thought by keeping them "mini" I'd get them done faster. No dice. Between the preparations for the Provo Bridal Fair last Saturday and all the engagement and bridal shoots for the weddings that are coming up in May and June, I've been swamped! le sigh...
Anyways, here are a few photos of little baby Bridger. He is the new addition to Liz Chapman's family, and this is actually the third time I have taken photos of him. I took photos of him as a newborn as well as before he was even named! By the by, you can click here for the full gallery.
I love the lighting in this one, and how he's just curled up in the basket with Teddy...
I've said it before, but I love love love baby photos where they are crying or in some kind of distress. Should I be concerned about this? :)
Such beautiful clear blue eyes...
Hubbard Reception- Down the rabbit hole we go...
All right, as promised, here are a few favorites of mine from the reception. Aaaaand as expected, the post is about a month later than I expected, so I am backdating the post to make it seem like I am more on the ball than I really am. Bwahahaha!
My apologies to everyone who follows this blog via feed reader- this will show up as a recent post and will likely confuse you. Carry on.
Some of the best garter-catching expressions I've ever seen, bar none.
Rule number one of proper drinking etiquette- Always remove one's wizard hat.
What other wedding can you find the mother of the groom dressed as Medusa? And with two Romans in the background to boot.....
The kids had a lot of fun....
This girl had a wicked awesome rapier.
Hubbard Wedding- Adventurers Welcome
Hail and well met! If any of you brave souls be looking for a dangerous quest to test your mettle... you would probably fit right in here. After all, what do you get when you combine a Renaissance Fair, Pagan ceremony, Scottish traditions, and a Wedding? A collection of photos that are generally anything but run-of-the-mill. As promised, here are a few photos from Ian and Sara's "mythology" themed wedding. It was a lot of fun to shoot, and there are a lot of really interesting photos in the different galleries. If you are feeling impatient, you can jump straight to the full galleries on Smugmug here. I'll put a few of my favorite photos from the ceremony and the group and newlywed sessions here. (editor's note: a "few" turned out to be a lot. sorry about the super long post. my sympathies if you are on dial-up) A few photos from the reception will follow in a later post. You'll be sure to want to check those out, as a lot of folks didn't dress up for the ceremony, only to later show up to the reception in style.
Here we got the groom all decked out. I can't for the life of me remember his clan though....
♫ "Here comes the bride! ..... accompanied by her father who is giving her away, while still holding his glass of scotch." ♫ I loved it. It completely fit the feel of the day. Everybody was relaxed and ready to enjoy themselves.
And now the ceremonial knot-tying of the wrists.... presumably to make sure nobody gets cold feet and runs away? ;)
Weddings are thirsty work.
And the grand exit.
The wedding party, sans costumes.
And the guests begin to trickle in to the reception... Every time I saw this guy on the left for the rest of the night, the only thing I could think of was "Mahwagge... Mahwagge is waht bwings us togehvah, today."
We didn't get a chance to do bridals for Sara, so we took a few minutes away between the ceremony and the reception to take a few photos of her and her husband.
Sara designed her own dress and had it custom-made. It's easily the most unique dress I've ever seen- gorgeous too!
A very cool-looking couple.
Lindsey and Justin
The Riverwoods in Provo is a beautiful spot for photography, with lots of interesting architecture and greenery. It was one of the first locations I ever did a couples shoot at, too, so going back was nicely nostalgic. It had been a while!
When I got there, I remembered why it had been such a long time. The Riverwoods is the home of Tucanos, a Brazilian Churrasco. Churrasco, of course, is Portuguese for place-where-they-feed-you-until-you-explode. You sit at a table and a parade of meat begins, until suddenly it's been three hours and you can no longer find your feet. At this point, my husband will get up and shake it all down before a quick last round, a bit like topping off his gas tank. Tucanos is delicious.
Anyway, the smell is heavenly, and shooting downwind is… distracting.
In spite of that, Lindsey and Justin seemed to resist the temptation and we had a fantastic time taking their engagement photos. They even brought a change of clothes to mix it up a little, which always makes my day. To any future clients that are reading this- bringing two or even three or four changes of clothing can lend a lot of variety to a session. I highly recommend bringing at least a casual set of clothes as well as a more formal set. But hey, whatever floats your boat- the pictures should also reflect you!
(Photographers, like many other artists, often tend toward the clotheshorse-ish. Texture and shape and color in clothes can really bring a shoot to life. There’s also nothing better than a photo that really *looks* like someone – even if your five-year-old gets her picture taken with the bicycle helmet she wouldn’t take off for two weeks straight one summer, those seem to be everyone’s favorites later on.)
Gotta love the easy and natural expression here- and the gorgeous light!
I've said it before, I'll say it again. I LOVE color, and this red wall is to die for- such a nice, soothing shade.
When we decided to go shoot at the Riverwoods, I remembered this big tree, and thought it might be fun to incorporate it. I couldn't help but laugh when right at the beginning of the shoot Justin mentioned he'd love to see if we could get a picture of them in a tree somewhere. Why yes. We can.
We didn't take as many formal outfit shots. They both said they liked the casual outfits a lot better. I gotta say though, I liked the blues.... blues all over in this picture.
Can't you just feel the happiness jumping out at you here?
Take a look at some more of my favorites from their shoot at the full gallery here.
I love me some sunflares.
Geoff
I've been trying to get through my backlog of posts I have been meaning to share. I've had a wedding and 5 engagement shoots in the last 7 days, and so I'm going to be swamped with new photos to share in the next little while. Thus, here is the last of the Christmas shoots I did for my family. Here's my little brother Geoff-
Love the lights in the background...
Geoff will be heading off on a mission pretty soon. Looks pretty sharp in a suit, doesn't he?
And here's fashion Geoff. Watch out ladies, he's coming to Utah this summer....
Check out some more photos here at the full gallery.
