BreAnn & Jon Formals

BreAnn and Jon were actually married about 3 years ago.  We shot an "engagement" shoot for them the fall after they were married, and BreAnn  said that one day we would do a formals (aka "groomals" and "bride and groom photos") shoot for them.  Formals are one of the more common sessions we do, whether they are about to get married, whether they are already married but didn't quite get what they were looking for.  Sometimes we'll do a formal shoot if wedding day coverage doesn't quite fit into the budget, and most of all we'll do formals if the couple just wants to have awesome wedding photos where we are free to pick the location, timing, flow, and feel of the session. Formals are my absolute favorite type of shoot to do.

I absolutely fell in love with this staircase.  I love the contrast, the texture, and the colors!  It was only after we finished that we noticed the signs warning about dangerous rust of the supports and structure... :-/

Well all's well that ends well, right?

I love shooting with some more direct sunlight, because if you do it right, you get that perfect backlighting to make the colors pop, and still get the fill for your couple.

And this last photo is actually just one I stopped and snapped on a whim as we were walking by on our way to the car.  I looked over, and just had to stop.  Such a gorgeous building!

It's a boy!

Elizabeth just had a beautiful baby boy, and we did a maternity shoot less than a week before she was due.  She was lovely, and brought her beautiful family along!

This photo reminds me of something.... something awesome.

For anyone who hasn't seen this... you're welcome.  To everyone else who has seen it already... you should watch it again.

Brittany and Scott- Sunsets, Sand, and Saltair

Today is Brittany's birthday!  She and Scott are getting married in less than a month, and today is the perfect day to show off their engagement photos.  We packed up our gear, slathered on the bug spray and headed on out to Saltair for some beautiful outdoor shots.  Brittany and Scott were a delight to shoot- happy to smile, ready to kiss on command, and A-OK to stand in the mud/sand/rocks/unmentionable sludge to get that perfect photo!

I mean, just look at those smiles...

It can be hit or miss to get the sky we want, but that night was something special...

I loved just how comfortable they were with everything.  With each other, with the camera, and with everything in between....

They didn't do so bad with the dramatic look either...

Happy Birthday Brittany- we'll see you two at the wedding!

Facebook, here we come!

After much debate between keeping my personal page and "friending" people vs. having a fan page and asking people to "like" me, we finally gave in.  That's right, Whitney Lewis Photography can now be found on Facebook at:

www.facebook.com/WhitneyLewisPhotography

So stroll over there to check it out, "like" the page, and if you check in regularly, you'll find wedding ideas and information on discounts and specials.

Nicole and Taylor: A splash of nature with a twist of vintage

What a fun sense of style!  Nicole and Taylor loved the outdoor vintage look, so we headed on out to Saratoga Springs and got some beautiful shots.

Both Nicole and Taylor have some incredible eyes.  I like how Nicole's have a little extra twinkle in them- she doesn't have to be grinning at the camera, you can still see she's over the moon about this guy.

They had this wonderful ornate mirror frame- I thought it was perfect for the feel they were going for.

I loved her bouquet of wildflowers!  Makes for a nice mix of color with a really relaxed, casual feeling to it.

EXPELLIARMUS!

To celebrate the final Harry Potter movie coming out today (it's amazing how many people I know went to the midnight showing), I decided it was time for these two photos to make another appearance on the blog.  I actually haven't seen the last installment of the movies yet; Thomas and I need to see 7.1 before going to see the final chapter.  We'll probably go see it next week. I know, I know- we should be in lovingly hand-made costumes amid the throngs of people seeing it NOW, but alas, I'm here in my office, blogging.

Brooklyn is a HUGE potter fan (I imagine she's watching HP 7 right now actually... probably in her wizard hat. She's awesome!), and given that we did their formals on July 3rd last year we took advantage of the window for legal firework goodness.

Happy Wizard Day, everyone!

Jessica & Luke: Engagements in Utah County

Luke just finished his MBA at BYU and was headed out to a job in Chicago (congratulations Luke!), so we had to get these engagements taken ASAP.  We met up and ran around downtown Provo- it was fabulous!  I have had the chance to see a variety of relationship dynamics, and it's fun to see how in love Jessica and Luke are.   They really are cute together.

With all the rain we had, Utah Lake had completely flooded and the streets were pretty wild.

Jessica works as an ASL interpreter, and has been teaching Luke all the important words.

I loved all the variety in looks and expression this couple had.  Happy, silly, dramatic- they could do it all!
