Alyssa and Justin's Wedding Party

I have Alyssa and Justin's wedding all done and ready to post, but I just realized that we had so much fun with the group shots of the wedding party, that I ended up with too many for the regular blog post! So I thought I would share these in their own standalone post.
One of the reasons this wedding party was so fun to work with, is that I shot the weddings of two of the "bridesmaids" last year, and most of the girls had been at each wedding. So by now we were all old friends, and ready to just have fun.

Jordan and Mike's Engagements

One of the challenges that an on location portrait photographer has is that you often has limitations on where you can go and how much time you have for a given shoot, and so inevitably you end up shooting at a lot of the same locations. The challenge is to make each of those shoots different and to make each time you go to the location look unique. Wheeler Farm is one of my favorite go-to places to shoot engagements, bridals, and formals. There's so much variety in the backgrounds there, and so many different "mini-locations" to play with, that depending on the time of day or the season you can go there many times a year and it always looks different.

Mike was such a crack-up. I don't think I've met a goofier or more naturally cheerful person.

Brittany and Scott's Formals

You might remember Brittany and Scott from the post where I shared possibly the greatest way to meet/marry someone EVER. As it turns out, Scott brought along his "modeling clothes" so we could properly document them for posterity. Blue's a good color for him, right?

Both Brittany and Scott looked great in their formal clothes, and we had an amazing time tromping around Aspen Grove above Sundance. All my clients have different reactions to what I suggest, and I'm always psyched when I say "Hey maybe we could go over there- I think it would be an amazing shot, but we might get the dress a little dirty or it might be a little awkward to walk over there, what do you think?" and they immediately say "SURE!" and start moving on into the underbrush. We got pretty far off-road, but really found some amazing locations.

I really loved the scrollwork and beading Brittany had on her dress. Both simple and elegant.

Shauna and Andrew- Formals @ Thanksgiving Point

We shot these formals at Thanksgiving Point. It's such a beautiful location, and best of all? We rent a golf cart every time we go to get from one place to another. It's great! (Realistically though, to get to all the good parts a golf cart is VERY useful- the place is huge, especially when one of the party is wearing a big white dress and heels)

There are just so many gorgeous flowers and arches!

Some of my favorite photos are when we're able to get that beautiful light on the background in all the trees and greenery. It gives such a happy, loving feeling to the photo.

California: Sandals and Satin

If a picture is worth a thousand words, I have an entire library headed your way from this beautiful wedding.

Confession: I believe palm trees automatically make a photo 117% better. It's science.

Anyone else reminded of Peter Pan and his shadow when you look at the above photo?

Cutest. "Cake" toppers. EVER.

Charlene

Some of you might remember Charlene, my very first bride. I shot her wedding a year and a half ago on February 13th (Friday the 13th!), and recently had the privilege to work with her again.

It so much fun to see my clients after they get married, as they grow as a family. Sometimes, they just grow and grow and grow and grow! These photos were taken just a couple of weeks before Charlene gave birth to her beautiful baby boy, Benton. I know you're all thinking "Did she give birth at five months? Was he premature?" Nope. A full-term baby, Benton was born after nine months. ....And his mom fit into size 0 jeans for her maternity shoot.

Charlene was asked to model for a maternity clothes company a few months before this. She jokes that she's the only person in the world who is a better model when she's pregnant. I'm secretly jealous- she's gorgeous!

Raps Family

I love repeat customers! It's so fun to watch a family change and to be there for different stages in their life. I shot the Raps family in California last year when I photographed Kelsey and Alec's wedding. They were such a fun family and we got along so well that I was delighted when Arlene Raps called me to let me know they were coming into town for Lauren's (Kelsey's older sister) graduation and they wanted to book a family portrait session.

Kelsey and Alec will be celebrating their one year anniversary soon, and are still just as in love today as they were on their wedding day.

The entire family was a blast to work with, but little Ava definitely stole the show.

It's really hard to beat taking photos in a big green park on a beautiful summer day.

It was good to see Jeff and Lauren again. Thomas and Jeff have been friends for years since they served LDS missions in Mexico City at the same time. That was originally how Jeff's sister-in-law Kelsey found me for her wedding photography. Hooray for referrals!

It was so cute how Ava had all these stock expressions. Jeff and Lauren had taught her so that they could say "Ok now Happy Smile," or "Now Excited Smile", or even "Now do a Shy Smile" and Ava would instantly pose and look right at the camera with the right expression. No bribes required!

She seemed to have gotten the catwalk down on her own though. She was fascinated by high heel shoes and kept stealing Aunt Kelsey's and Grandma's so that she could strut her stuff. Someone's going to end up being a model!

The one thing I hope for from my clients is PERSONALITY... in this shoot, I hit the jackpot. They were laughing and being playful from beginning to end. I loved it!

Patterson Wedding

Jenny's veil was wrestling with the wind pretty much all day...

I love my new detail lens...

They had all this amazing fruit and delicious desserts....

..but I guess someone got hungry and wanted some "real" food. :D They smuggled it in and were eating at a table in the corner of the garden. It was hilarious!

Because Jenny and Josh both have a LOT of siblings, and a lot of them have their own families, the neices and nephews really dominated the reception. There were so many cute kids they ended up in their own subgallery!

It was a beautiful backyard reception, and the highlight for me was this GORGEOUS separate guest cottage they had. It was the same style as the main house, and was absolutely darling!
